Wow. If this goes through, I guess I can expect my current average of two out-of-town houseguests a month to, oh I dunno, triple? Quadruple? Maybe I can start charging...

Included in that article are some of the most intelligent things I've heard anyone of any mainstream polticial or religious affliation say with regards to marijuana:

"But our marijuana laws are not curbing marijuana use and they are causing more harm than good by filling the pockets of dangerous criminals and ensuring that children have the easiest access of anyone," she said...

"One of the roles of religion is to point out hypocrisy in society. By any means, marijuana is less dangerous to individuals and society than alcohol," Scheuneman said...

"Marijuana doesn't cause this disregard for human life. Our marijuana laws do," Woodson said...

Of course I don't actually expect the measure to pass, if only because governments historically don't do anything intelligent until long after the governed have overwhelmingly figured things out for themselves.

Then there's this tidbit:

The newest version [of the initiative] imposes a $45 per ounce excise tax, which would be used to defray administrative costs.

Hmmm...maybe it should be kept illegal after all. It's cheaper that way!

If you put any stock into polls the Review Journal had one last week that predicted this would fail, something like 30%-70%. I think Nevada would be more likely to pass something like this than your average state, what with legalized prostitution and everything. How is pot worse?
